About Italy Strikes Today and our sources
Italy Strikes Today is an independent project that makes the official Italian strike register easy to read in English for travellers. We are not affiliated with the Italian government, unions or transport operators.
Where the data comes from
- The strike register of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and its RSS feed, published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) licence. We read it twice a day and keep our own archive with the history of each strike: when it was announced, changed, called off or removed from the list of upcoming strikes. The register also has its own search page with past strikes since 2014. We translate and reorganise the data; the original Italian text is always shown.
- When the Ministry register cannot be read, new strikes and cancellations come from the strike calendar of the Commissione di garanzia sciopero (the Italian strike guarantee commission), through the daily copy published by onData under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Each of these strikes shows "Source: Commissione di garanzia sciopero (via onData, CC BY 4.0)" with a link to its official page. The calendar has no announcement date and lists only the next 30 days; when the Ministry register is readable again, its entries replace the matching ones.
- Guaranteed services: we link to the operators and authorities that publish them (Trenitalia, Italo, Trenord, ENAC, local transport companies). We do not copy their lists.
How we translate
Sectors, scope and hours are translated automatically with fixed rules. The original Italian text is always shown next to the translation. If our rules cannot translate the hours, we show only the original.
Limits
Strikes can be called off or changed at short notice, and the register may be updated after our daily check. Always confirm with your operator before travelling.
