Codice fiscale calculator for foreigners
Work out the Italian tax code (codice fiscale) that matches your personal data, then get the official one from the Italian authorities. Free, nothing is sent to us: the calculation happens in your browser.
Only the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) can assign your official codice fiscale. In rare cases (two people with the same data) the official code is different from the calculated one. Use this to check or prepare, not as a substitute.
Your calculated codice fiscale:
Check it with the Revenue Agency's free verification service (in Italian).
How to get your official codice fiscale
From the Agenzia delle Entrate page for foreign citizens (checked 10 October 2026):
- If you live abroad: apply to the Italian consulate in your country of residence.
- In Italy, non-EU citizens: the Single Desk for Immigration (Sportello Unico per l'Immigrazione) issues it to people entering Italy for work or family reunification, and the police headquarters (Questura) when you apply for or renew a residence permit.
- In all other cases: at an office of the Agenzia delle Entrate, with a valid ID document (non-EU citizens: passport with visa if required, or residence permit, and proof of the right to stay). For a first codice fiscale you must book an in-person appointment.
- EU citizens: any Agenzia delle Entrate office, with an ID card or passport.
How the code is built
It has 16 characters: 3 letters from your surname, 3 from your given names, 2 digits for the year of birth, a letter for the month, 2 digits for the day (plus 40 for women), a 4-character code for the place of birth (for people born abroad, "Z" and three digits for the country) and a final check letter.
Limits of this calculator
- Countries: the current list of the Italian national population register (ANPR, Ministry of the Interior). If you were born in a country that no longer exists, the official code may use a historical country code.
- Italian towns: ISTAT list of current municipalities. Towns merged or abolished in the past are not included.
- Same-data cases ("omocodia") are handled only by the Agenzia delle Entrate.
