What a general strike in Italy means for travellers
General strikes can involve all sectors at once. How to read the register and what usually happens to transport.
A sciopero generale (general strike) is called by one or more unions for many sectors at the same time. Big confederations sometimes call national general strikes; smaller unions call them more often, with less impact.
- The register says which transport sectors join and at what hours. For example, rail often from 21:00 the evening before to 21:00 on the day; local transport with the guaranteed hours of each city.
- Sometimes the register note excludes some sectors (for example air transport). We show the original note and a short summary.
- Guaranteed services still apply in each sector: trains, flights, buses and metro.
